Three Valuable Points

Leicester City 2 Barnsley 0, Saturday 16 December

This was more like it. Old fashioned football weather - absolutely freezing - and a half decent match. Because it was near Xmas, and because the Tigers were playing, we parked early at Granby Halls, managing to get one of the few spaces left. This meant however that we were in our seats by 2.01pm.

I passed the time trying to call Karon on her mobile (which was switched on!)and watching Ashley stuff five donuts down his mouth.

The game started well and Leicester seemd to be playing the better football. However, a period of long balls and missed passes soon allowed Barnsley to look dangerous. But a great passing move led to a driving shot from Tiatto and Hammond was there to fire in the rebound. It was a similar picture in the second half, our goal once again coming from an excellent flowing move. Levi Porter scored his second in two and looks a real prospect for the future.

With the rugby fans already out of the car park, getting away afterwards was a doddle. So it was off to Tescos for beer and lager!

Just Not Good Enough

Leicester City 1 Sheffield Wednesday 4, Saturday 2 December 2006

Just when you thought things couldn’t get much worse, Wednesday score another goal….

It started well enough, with Leicester dominating most of the first half and the visitors lacking confidence in front of their own goal. But then came the penalty. If that was a blow then the decision to send McCarthy off for a second “bookable” offence was a mortal wound. Not least because it was a bad decision. And while we were still fuming Sheffield Wednesday scored again. We never really recovered.

A short rally and a goal gave us a brief glimmer of hope, but a further Wednesday goal soon ended that. Then to ensure our defeat they score a fourth and the punishment was complete. Sadly it was a poor performance from a poor team. Things will need to get better if we are to stay in this division.
